Narwal Freo X Ultra
A highly-rated high-quality, highly-functional Gen 4 robot vacuum and mop that adopts a new approach to design, the Freo X Ultra is a very well-built machine. The price of $1400 could be a bit steep, but it's often offered for sale to make it more affordable. The unit is stunning, and the base occupies very small space in the corner of your home.
The design of this robot addresses the issues we've faced with other robotic mop and vacuum cleaners, such as brushes that get caught in hair and the vacuum brush not being able to reach the bare flooring underneath furniture. The sweeping performance on floors and carpets is also impressive. The vacuum/mop system is equipped with a high amount of debris collection and the mop is able to soak up floors that are not soiled.
The mops also use a smart system to clean around the edges of furniture and walls. The robot is able to effortlessly avoid obstacles such as food bowls, toys, and backpacks. But it can get stuck or entangled with smaller and less hefty objects, such as shoelaces USB cables and pen.
This robot was used to vacuum and mop hardwood floors, FLOR carpet tiles and pile rugs in a large open-plan house. It vacuumed and mops the 90 square meters in 170 minutes using FREO Mind enabled. This is a bit more than the average for Gen 4 robots.
The robot is distinguished by its numerous features. The Freo X Ultra has a slew of software, sensor and hardware enhancements designed to keep it at the top of its class. It claims 3.5 hours of autonomy in environments of up to 260 square meters.
You can modify a variety of functions from the Freo app, including how often the robot is back to the base station, its mopping frequency and power (silent or smart) and its mopping humidity. The app is able to detect heavily soiled areas and design a clean route, and dispensing detergent or raising the carpet's pads.
Other notable features include a quick charging battery, a simple-to-read display on the robot's underside and a practical dock door that can be opened easily. The Freo X Ultra vacuum and mop is perfect for homeowners and apartment dwellers who want to reduce their chores and keep their homes tidy.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele is a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the field of robot vacuuming. This new model aims to take that to the next level by incorporating innovative features and top-of-the-line cleaning performance.
The RX3 features a dual suction system and intelligent navigation that includes 3D mapping and a camera that sends live images to your smartphone for easy control. The RX3's four-stage system is excellent for dust collection on hard floors and carpets. Side brushes can be swept out, dual suction channels and easy-to-use controls keep corners clean. The 8.5 cm height lets it fit under furniture with ease, while front cameras and infrared sensors help it navigate around obstacles and thresholds with ease.
The Scout RX3 impressed us in our tests on how well it was able to clean baking powder around baseboards and corners. Its suction power of 2,500Pa was less powerful than some other robots, but it was able to move quickly and was very quiet. It didn't clean, however its washable pads were fiddly to attach and couldn't cope with dried-on dirt.
Its app isn't equipped with advanced features like multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It does support Alexa, but its voice controls aren't very clear or responsive. It's also a bit sporadic when it comes back to the charging station following an exercise. self vacuum can follow the wall or trace a previous route, but the RX3 bumbles around until it gives up.
We also had issues with the intelligent features of the device, namely its mapping feature and the digital stay-out zones. It was great at keeping our shoes and furniture legs away, but it was easily hung up on socks, cables, and rugs. We decided not to include the Scout RX3 on our Best Buy list. With a decent price and impressive performance, the Scout RX3 is worth considering when you're looking for an alternative to the traditional uprights.
